Free or Cheap Volunteer Work in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Grassroots Volunteering in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The organisations listed below have either got in touch with us to add their details to this or another of our websites, or we otherwise have reason to believe they are actively looking for international volunteers and charge reasonable or no fees to join in, live and work with them:

Firefly International

Firefly is able to send a small number of people annually with a funding stipend through the European Voluntary Service (EVS) programme to volunteer as a youth activity instructor with Svitac (see other opportunities below) in Brčko. Five people are placed for three months over the summer, autumn or winter, and there is also a one year art coordinator placement. Applicants should have UK residency and be aged 18 to 30.

Where: Brčko.
Accommodation & Costs: Placements are fully funded through EVS, including international travel and a volunteer's allowance.

Other Opportunities to Volunteer in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Non UK residents and those over 30 willing to fund themselves can bypass Firefly International's criteria (see listings above) by applying direct to volunteer with Svitac Bosnia. Part of Svitac's infrastructure is a youth centre in Brčko and it is here we suspect Love Volunteers sends the volunteers it places on its community development project. We might be wrong but even if we aren't Love Volunteers' fees tend to be reasonable, at around $110 per week (plus a one off $250 registration fee) for food, accommodation and in-country support, and may suit those that want to volunteer for a shorter period than the three to 12 months needed to avail of Firefly's EVS funded option.
